  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Antique items such as tin toys, typewriter, egg beater, jax, rotary phone and handkerchiefs

Identify Instructional Procedures:

  • Initiation

I will prepare the word sort sheet. On the sheet will be different object or scenarios for the students to cut sort and glue onto the accompanied sheet. They will have to choose to put it on the past or present side of the sheet.

  • Lesson

I will start out by asking the class what it means if something is from the past and something from the present. The students will have a chance to talk with their turn and talk partners. I will then have the children get into their smartboard positions. They will watch the quick video “Long ago”. After the video, we will read the book “Then and Now”. After the book, we will make a comparison list on the chart paper. We make a past column and then a present column. From the book and the video the children should each be able to come up with one thing they remembered to add to our list. After we finish the list, I will go over the sort activity. I will tell the children what each picture is. They will go back to their seats and will have to cut, sort and glue each of the pictures onto their papers in the right place.

  • Closure

When everyone has finished, we will l come back to the carpet. In closing, I will take out some different items for the children to look at. I will show them a rotary phone, and old egg beater, some handkerchiefs, some tin toys, jax, and even an old typewriter. The children will be given time to explore these objects and ask questions.
